MOVE TIP

What time will the crew be here?
Beltway has never stood up a customer in our 43+ years of business. All of us who live in the Washington Metro area understand its traffic issues. These unforeseen gridlocks will on occasion make us late, however, be assured that they will be there!. Our consultants noted an approximate arrival time on your written estimate. You will receive a call from our dispatcher on the day before your move to confirm the arrival time, introduce you to the crew and discuss any last minute details. If you have more move day questions visit our FAQ.

Packing Basics
Basic Packing Guidelines
  • The average person uses 5-10 cartons per room.
  • Plan on using a lot of tape. One roll of tape for every 10-15 cartons.
  • Use the right carton for the right job. Order supplies online.
  • Label every carton immediately upon sealing.
  • Packed cartons should weigh less than 50lbs.
  • Keep items from the same room together as much as possible.
  • One carton stacked on another while packing can reduce back strain.
  • Not all companies will accept open top boxes. Our SmartPack® Vans allow you to do so.
  • Consider rental carton for clothes, lamps, mirrors, and pictures.

There Are Four
Basic Carton Sizes

17x13x13
THE BOOK CARTON
Used for book, records, CDs, canned goods and other similar small heavy items. Each book carton will hold two linear shelf feet of hard back books.
18x16x18
THE MEDIUM CARTON
The most versatile of all the cartons. Use for everything from linens to bric-a-brac. It will hold approximately one shelf of the average linen closet.
18x18x24
THE LARGER CARTON
Use for light, bulky items like toys, comforters, waste baskets, shoe boxes, throw pillows, etc. Do not overload a box of this size.
18x18x30
THE CHINA CARTON
Constructed of heavier cardboard
Use for china, dishes, glassware and other fragile items. Each carton will hold an 8 to 10 piece place setting - including glasses and serving pieces. Always pack dishes and plates on end - never flat.
