When you move out of one apartment into another apartment, the same thing rings true for both places, they need to be cleaned! Especially in this day in age. In this blog post, we will provide you with a breakdown of what cleaning needs to be done when moving out of your old apartment, and what cleaning needs to be handled once you move into your new apartment.

Move Out Cleaning

Check your lease! Most, if not all, apartment complexes will include a section about cleaning. Many apartments require the renter hire a cleaning company to professionally clean the apartment after moving out. If they don’t, be prepared to deep clean. Your current landlord will want the place to be left sparkling!

Depending on what your apartment complex requires, below are a few ideas of what needs to be cleaned before you hand over the keys.

  • Kitchen: Clean the countertops, windowsills, baseboards, cabinets, fridge, oven, and floors
  • Bathroom: Clean the tub, shower, mirror, baseboards, and cabinets
  • Living Areas and Bedrooms: Clean the baseboards, carpets (yep, you might need to hire a professional carpet cleaner), hardwood floors / tile floors, closets, and windows

You might think, “What do I have to lose? I’m moving out, no need for me to clean.” Well, you’d lose your security deposit! If your apartment isn’t cleaned from top to bottom, and you don’t follow the instructions provided in your lease, you will lose either a portion or all of your security deposit.

Move In Cleaning

This one is (hopefully!) easy. As you now know, most apartments require an apartment to be cleaned upon move out, which means you should be moving into a nice, clean apartment! But, we know that’s not always the case.

We recommend giving your apartment a quick sweep and wipe down before you move in. Before you start moving your belongings in, do a quick check! How’s it look? If it looks clean, a quick wipe down of the counter, toilet(s), and floors should do the trick! If not, let your new landlord or property manager know, so they can have the apartment thoroughly cleaned before you move into it.

They were so quick obviously. They were very nice and helpful. And my wife specifically liked how they would talk out loud about their own safety and about protecting the walls and floors. Very amiable. Loved the experience!

We used Beltway Movers to move all of our furniture and most of our other belongings into storage for more than three years and to move those belongings back into our house. We're very satisfied with every aspect of our dealings with Beltway Movers.
