Every item in your house is waiting for you to decide. Is it going into the donation or throwaway pile? Or is it one of the lucky ones you are taking with you? Surely you researched what is the best way to pack? Likewise, you were probably looking up what are the best movers and packers in Maryland. We are certain your research didn’t stop there. Having an essentials box will make unpacking a lot easier.

An essentials box is the most important box. It is also called “an open-first box”. Pretty much it’s a box where you pack the most important items. Of course, if you are one of those maximalists, you will probably need two. Or maybe even three. But, we are not here to shame! Pack as many essential boxes as you need. Here is where you will pack items you use daily. If you would like to have an enjoyable relocation, pack an essentials box. It will make the entire process of packing and unpacking a lot less stressful. It might be difficult to believe, but this simple step will help you a lot. Therefore, take the time to think it through. Try to plan out the first couple of days in your new home. Think about what items you will need for the first week.

Why do you need to pack an essentials box?

By now you are probably wondering why do you need to pack one? So let’s explain that as well. As we mentioned it is quite helpful. Since moving is so chaotic it is easy to forget important things. Making a box like this will ensure you don’t forget about the crucial items you need. Here is where you can pack all the necessities you will need during the first couple of days in your new home. Even if you hire the best local movers MD, you can’t expect your things to arrive the second you step into your new home. It takes time for movers to transport, unload and unpack your things.

Once you finish packing, you still need to use the toilet, eat, brush your teeth, etc. Certainly, you don’t want to rumble around a mountain of packing boxes just to find your toothbrush. So be smart and pack a box with all the essential items. Having a box like this can be a lifesaver. Just don’t forget to tell other members of your family to pack separate boxes with some of their most necessary items. Good organization is the key to a successful relocation.

Tips for packing an essentials box

To make things easier for you, we prepared a couple of simple tips. Follow these tips and you will have your essentials box ready in no time.

  • Save it for the end. Since this box contains all the necessities, save it for the end. Seal it just a couple of hours before you need to leave.
  • Make sure you can easily recognize it. Surely you want to avoid looking amid a dozen of beige cardboard boxes every hour. Thus choose a funky one. Think about what will easily stand out. It could be a bright color or a vibrant print.
  • Every room should have one.
  • Keep it basic. When you are thinking about how to pack an essential box, remember to stick to the basics. For sure you would like to use your new espresso machine but is it a necessity?
  • Keep it close. It doesn’t matter if you are moving across the street or across the ocean. Your essentials box should always be close to you. It should be easily accessible.

We had a great experience with Beltway Movers. Bill was great in helping to arrange the moving experience and ensure we understood the process beforehand, and the moving team was excellent - very professional, speedy, and took great care of our belongings.

Fantastic moving company!!! One of the best I have ever worked with. We had an office move in early January this year and I worked with Bill Barrett from their back office to set up the week of our move with multiple days of the move, and he was fantastic and very organized and responsive. The movers on the 4 days of our move were all fantastic as well -- super professional, so hard-working, positive, efficient and communicative. We just had the best experience, everything was prompt and on time, just everything went perfectly smoothly. Would 100% hire them again -- wish we were moving again sooner so we could. Thanks so much Beltway!!!

I had a great experience with Beltway Movers. Being new to the area I hadn't heard of them before, but someone recommended them to me and I figured they seemed like a big enough outfit to be legit. What I didn't expect was a great crew! Brian, JR and Ben were friendly, efficient, and attentive as they moved my stuff from a downtown DC apartment to a house in the 'burbs. Brian even fixed my platform storage bed that the previous movers had broken! Moving is a huge pain and I hope to never do it again... but if I do, I'll definitely use Beltway Movers.
