Moving day is quickly approaching and you think you have everything ready – the kids and dog are scheduled to go to grandma’s house, the packing boxes have arrived and the mover is booked. Unfortunately, as much as it might seem like you are, you’re not completely prepared. Why? Well, you need to keep in mind the importance of moving logistics. If you live in an area with limited parking, or you live in an apartment building, you will need to keep in mind the people that live around you and how you’re prepping to move around these other people. Below are a few tips.

    • If you live in an apartment building you’re going to need to reserve the loading dock. Imagine 2-3 different families moving on the same day and attempting to share the loading dock – it doesn’t work! Plus, a lot of apartment buildings will only allow you to have the loading dock for a certain amount of hours, so you’ll want to make sure you schedule properly and inform the moving company of those plans. Note: There might be height restrictions on the loading dock, so be sure to ask building management what those restrictions are and let the movers know.
    • If you live on a busy street that’s usually filled with cars you’re going to need to obtain a permit from the city to reserve a spot for the moving truck. If you don’t reserve the spot the moving van might need to circle the block for a while before they’re able to secure a spot – you will be charged for the time the moving truck needs to find a spot. Interested in securing a spot in DC? Click here to visit the District of Columbia Transportation Online Permitting Systems. Note: Our moving vans require 3 car sized spaces minimum and 4 spaces to allow for safer extension of a loading ramp.
    • Arrange the items you’re moving in a fashion that’s easiest for the movers to load and unload the truck. This will save the movers’ time and you money!
    • Reserve the freight elevators for your moving day. This will save you a lot of headache because you won’t need to wait to use the regular building elevators.

Additional items to ask your building manager before the big move.

    • Is a certificate of insurance required?
    • Masonite required in hallways?
    • Gate and building access requirements?

    Top Rated, Highly Recommended

Bill was excellent in both estimating and explaining the move, which entailed working with multiple people and delivery points. Follow up from the office was very professional, questions and concerns were answered promptly, and paperwork was thorough and easy to understand. Beltway is clearly a team operation, and a winning one at that. I would absolutely use Beltway again, and especially commend Caesar, Rene, and crew. I chose Beltway based on the promises made, and from start to finish, they did everything they said they would, and more. The team clearly understands the moving process from both a psychological and logistical standpoint

Our move consultant, Ben, was very friendly, informative, and kind. Ben was willing to help anyway he could to put us at ease and to explain the cost and process. Amazing and conscientious, quick and courteous, these guys finished in record time. Our next move will be with Beltway movers, no questions asked.

I found Beltway Movers to be nice, friendly, efficient, professional, and just awesome. They went above and beyond the tasks I requested. And Tim (the driver) was amazing. If I ever had to move again, I wouldn’t even think of hiring anyone but Beltway Movers. They are the best, without a doubt.
