Understanding Maryland: A retirement perspective

Maryland offers a diverse retirement landscape, balancing urban conveniences with natural beauty. For those considering this state, it’s essential to delve into specifics, starting with housing costs. The median home prices hover around $390,000, although this can vary widely depending on the location within the state. When it comes to taxes, Maryland’s approach to retirement income taxation includes exemptions for Social Security income and a deduction on other retirement income for those over 65, making it somewhat friendly for retirees. However, the state’s overall tax burden is higher compared to some other states, which is an important consideration.

Healthcare in Maryland is a strong point, with numerous top-rated hospitals and a wide range of senior healthcare services. For example, moving companies in Baltimore MD often assist retirees settling near renowned institutions like Johns Hopkins Hospital, known for its specialized senior care. Maryland’s lifestyle and recreational activities are vast, from the cultural attractions of its cities to the scenic Chesapeake Bay and Appalachian Trail. The state experiences four distinct seasons, offering a variety of climates to enjoy throughout the year. This mix of urban and natural environments, combined with quality healthcare and specific tax benefits, makes Maryland an attractive option for retirees seeking balance in their golden years.

Exploring Virginia for retirement

Virginia stands out as a compelling choice for retirement, offering a blend of affordability, quality healthcare, and enriching lifestyle options. The cost of living in Virginia can be lower than the national average, especially in areas outside of the Northern Virginia region. For instance, the median home price in many parts of Virginia is around $350,000, making housing affordability a significant advantage for retirees. Tax-wise, Virginia is relatively retiree-friendly, with Social Security income not taxed and a deduction available for pension and retirement income for those 65 and older. This fiscal policy supports retirees in managing their finances more effectively.

Top Rated, Highly Recommended

We have used Beltway Movers on multiple occasions, and they have proven reliable, professional and careful. The last couple of times we moved, Damien was the lead mover. He is hard working, professional and very careful with walls, floors and with our belongings. We are very particular, and Damien and his team have listened to our concerns, and worked hard to avoid damages. Beltway Movers has stored our things on two occasions, and we have rarely, if ever, lost anything or had any damage. We highly recommend Beltway Movers.

I would like to inform that both move days went extremely well. There was a lot to do in extreme heat and elevators to navigate. The leads on both day D. Anderson and Kenneth were extremely professional and listened to and addressed my concerns. The teams were also very responsive and wonderful to work with. I've moved over 20 times with the military and this is the first team who left each residence and access points as they found them. No worries you are top of my list to recommend to family and friends.

I had a great experience with Beltway Movers. Being new to the area I hadn't heard of them before, but someone recommended them to me and I figured they seemed like a big enough outfit to be legit. What I didn't expect was a great crew! Brian, JR and Ben were friendly, efficient, and attentive as they moved my stuff from a downtown DC apartment to a house in the 'burbs. Brian even fixed my platform storage bed that the previous movers had broken! Moving is a huge pain and I hope to never do it again... but if I do, I'll definitely use Beltway Movers.
