May kicks off the busiest moving season of the year which is why it’s National Moving Month! Whether it’s moving away to college, coming home from college, or changing locations while school is out for the summer, many people use the month of May to pack up their belongings and change their address. People also find seasonal work in the summer, and some of them may be forced to relocate, if only temporarily. This makes May an ideal time to hunt for a new apartment and find a mover. Also, the weather is typically much better this time of year!

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, about one in nine people move each year. Memorial Day through Labor Day is also when houses start to sell the most. Since more houses are selling, more people are moving into those houses!

If you are planning to move this summer, start planning ahead. To celebrate National Moving Month, we’ve compiled a list of some useful tips for a stress-free move.

  1. Hire a moving company that is license and insured and has a proven track record. Look for information such as the number of years the company has been in service and the number of moves the company has completed. Here at Beltway Movers, we’ve been serving our community for over 60 years and are members of the American Moving & Storage Association, Maryland Motor Truck Association, and Virginia Movers & Warehousemen’s Association.
  2. If you close on your new home, but don’t move in right away, you may need to find out where to store your belongings during your moving transition. We realize that the likelihood of this happening is common and can cause a lot of stress which is why Beltway Movers offers to store items on our trucks overnight or for a week plus in our warehouse. And, not to worry, everything is locked up so that it remains safe and secure!
  3. Pack a bag of essentials for each family member such as medicines, toiletries, and a change of clothes. It’s especially important to keep kids occupied during the move! Keep these bags handy so you’ll have everything you need for your first night in your new home without having to dig through boxes.

Are you planning a move this summer? If so, call Beltway Movers today at (877) 959-5609. If you’d like to request a quote, you can do so via our website. We look forward to working with you!

Top Rated, Highly Recommended

My movers were fantastic. I wound up being much farther behind them than I anticipated, and they found parking and got started unloading while I was still on the road. This was my second move with Beltway Movers, and I’m officially a big fan.

Moving is always a tough experience but working with the crew was an absolute delight. The crew made the move easy, nothing was too much trouble and they completed every request with good humor and excellent customer service

They were so quick obviously. They were very nice and helpful. And my wife specifically liked how they would talk out loud about their own safety and about protecting the walls and floors. Very amiable. Loved the experience!
